Teen Ministry
"Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil." - Prov 4: 25-27

As you read the Bible, you will find many places where it talks about the right way or the wrong way. Jesus Himself said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father except through Me.” There are many things that can distract young people today from taking the right path. How do we keep them from taking the wrong one?

Tuscumbia’s youth ministry program seeks to help parents and families as they work towards teaching their children how to follow the steps that Christ has laid before us. It exists to provide the spiritual, moral, and emotional development of those young men and women from the 7th through 12th grade. They are the future of our “Forever Family”. They will one day be leaders in the Lord’s Church and in their community. We seek to raise them up to be living “Stepping Stones” guiding the lost, and providing a safe path for others to follow, just as they follow Christ.

With the love and encouragement of their families, the dedication and devotion of their youth minister, and their own personal faiths in God, our youth are growing in the love and wisdom of God’s Word. We have over 60+ young men and women striving to follow the Pattern of Christ, so they can one day be the “Stepping Stones” for other to follow.

Below are just a few of the many activities and service projects available for our teenagers:

"All" Youth Potluck Every 3rd Wednesday evening at 6pm before Bible study all of our youth and their families gather together in our church annex to fellowship with one another. We have a different food theme scheduled every month and each family is to bring a dish that coincides with that theme.

Annual Canoe Trip Every Summer we take a trip to Buffalo River. Here we enjoy the serenity of being outdoors among the Creator’s artwork. We also get to enjoy time with one another and sharing in a sack lunch during the canoe trip. There might also be an occasional canoe flip or two!

Appreciation Days This includes our Father's Day Breakfast, Mother's Day Brunch, and Valentine's Banquet. These are for the fathers, mothers, and senior adults, respectively. They are opportunities for our youth to show appreciation for these individuals through acts of service.

Breakfast with the King Every 3rd Monday of each month the youth meet at Burger King before school for breakfast. This is just a time for us to fellowship with one another and a great way to kick off the beginning of a long school week.

Challenge Youth Conference Teenagers are asked to make so many choices. This weekend will Challenge and equip you to make good choices as you choose to be different, choose to live different, choose good words, choose to change, choose balance and ultimately to choose the prize.

Fall Midnighter There is nothing more peaceful than sitting around a campfire. The month of November is dedicated for hanging out and relaxing on top of Hawk Pride Mountain at the Sherrod place. We roast marshmallows and hot dogs, play capture the flag, ride four wheelers, and warm ourselves by the fire.

Glow Conference GLOW is an annual conference in which speakers, classes, and activities are geared specifically toward the needs of Christian junior and high school girls.

"I AM" Retreat Since 2005, the “Forever Family” at Tuscumbia has dedicated their efforts towards the “I AM” Mini Retreat. This event is a unique two day rally that is geared towards the cultivating and interests of our young teenage men area wide. Although dedicated to those young men in high school, we are also open those who are still youth at heart, including late middle school age or college students. We strive to help sustain these young men as they try to situate a grasp on their faith. We want these growing young men of God to maintain Christian attitudes as they embark through the journey of life.

Lads to Leaders Training our young people in the church is an important matter to consider. The Lads to Leaders & Leaderettes programs develop young Christians for responsible leadership roles not only in the church, but in the home, school, community, and business world. This program provides the Tuscumbia Church of Christ as well as other churches with effective year-round youth (kindergarten through 12th grade) leadership. The purpose of Lads to Leaders & Leaderettes is to help instill the Word of God into youth and adults so that they will naturally stand firm in the faith. We need to prepare our young people now to be good leaders.

Monthly Devotionals This is a time for our church members to open up their home to the youth of the congregation for some wonderful fellowship! All of our teenagers come together and cram around the living room to lift their voices in song. One of our young men in the youth group will then give a short devotional message following the singing. Following the devotional time, we dig into some delicious snacks provided by our gracious host.

Monthly Service Projects These are ways for our youth to work together actively showing our Savior’s love for all men. Some of these services include: local nursing home visitation, delivering various gifts to our sick and shut-in during the holidays, yard work, congregational car washes and much, much more.

Songs of Summer Every Sunday night throughout the months of June and July we take a ride over to the Christian Student Center on UNA’s campus. Here, hundreds of young people gather together for an hour to sing praises to our Lord. Following the singing, we go grab some fast food.

Winter & Summer Youth Series These are area-wide, year-long series of youth devotionals at various congregations. During the Winter, September – May, the series is held on the third Sunday of each month. During the Summer, June – August, the series is held every Tuesday evening. Each congregation has a special speaker come in to talk to the youth of the area about topics that deal with the everyday teenage life.

Youth Led Worship Every 5th Sunday evening is an opportunity for the young Christian men of the congregation to lead worship. They will read from the Scriptures, pray, and lead singing. This is also a time to hear a message presented by the youth minister, Eli Harper.
