"Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons."
- 1 Timothy 3: 8 - 10

In the first century A.D., the Apostles selected men to help serve the congregations in Jerusalem. They appointed six men. The primary duty of these men was to serve the widows of the congregations. One of them even, Stephen, was later known to have done signs and wonders among those he ministered to. This eventually led to him being stoned. Today, deacons serve more than just the widows. They are actively serving in many areas of the Church. At Tuscumbia, the deacons of our "Forever Family" assist with seeing to various needs of the congregation. Among these needs are: Benevolence, Bible Study, Personal Evangelism, and Worship. They help the elders work with the various Ministry Committees. To see a full list and description of all our Ministry Committees, click here. Tuscumbia is proud of the men we have serving as deacons. Their willingness to serve helps both the eldership and the congregation as a whole. Please take some time to get to know them a little better.
